Blue Tears
Tragedy, humor and beauty in images and music
Izhar Elias – guitars
Menno de Nooijer – video art
Sarai van de Boel – performance art
Annick Binnendijk – voice
Music: Lachrimae by John Dowland, (Spanish) improvisations, new works by Luc Houtkamp.
Blue Tears combines guitar music, vocals, performance, and video projections.
The performance is based on images of Weeping Madonnas, as depicted in Southern Spain. Weeping Madonnas offer consolation in times of suffering. Blue Tears explores “weeping” by placing the symbol of the Madonna in a different context. In this day and age, the phenomenon of crying can be associated with great suffering in the world. Tragedy and humor are often closely related: sometimes it’s better to laugh at the difficulties of our time.
